Construction type and material
- Cooling towers are distinguished in principle of their construction type:
- cell type construction (square and rectangular)
- circular construction (hyperbolic, cylindrical, conical or pyramidal)
- reinforced concrete
- glass fibre reinforced plastic (GRP)
- hot dip galvanized steel
- treated timber
Large round cooling towers have a supporting shell of reinforced concrete. The load
supporting structures of cell type cooling towers consist of:
Standardized GRP-profiles are more commonly applied. Profiled plastic plates are
preferred for the casing.
Noise protection = Environmental protection
- Cooling tower operation generates noise from the rotating machinery and the falling water.
